An

Unconventional

Road to Writership

If you’re anything like me, the trajectory of your life may have turned out totally different than you planned, which is exactly how I’ve landed here today. In 2019, my life was turned upside down when I witnessed the tragic and unexpected passing of my infant niece, Ellie. As I grappled in the depths of complex PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety, my therapist asked me a question that changed the course of my life. That question catapulted me into sitting at the computer one night, and the words that once escaped me suddenly charged out of me like a freight train onto the screen.

Eight pages later, I had seemingly found an incredible new way to work through my loss and use writing as a way to process not only my grief but also my life. Soon after, I started my blog, Amy Unfiltered, and in 2021, I began using my love of words and writing with HEART to launch my life and content writing business, My Story Seller. I’m currently in the process of writing my first book and hope to have it hit shelves in 2026 (unless a traditional publisher miraculously comes galloping along on their white horse and gleefully asks me to join their best-selling author team…hey - a girl can dream, right?).

I’m so insanely grateful for the colorful new world that writing has opened up for me; it has quite literally changed my life. I’m elated to continue blogging and writing about my unconventional story, and I hope it will inspire you to pick up the pen and write yours.

A little more about Amy…

Amy grew up in Iowa with four younger sisters and a large (and rather loud) extended family. Some of her fondest childhood memories are from her time at her family’s 100-year-old farm in the small town of Durant, where she spent time with her grandparents, ran from the hogs when they got out of their pens (again), and rode for hours on the riding lawnmower while not actually mowing anything at all.

Although extremely uncoordinated, Amy was somehow the co-captain of her cheerleading squad in high school (Go Lions!), graduated from college with dual degrees in education, and, prior to her writing adventure, held various roles in the world of finance and education.

She loves stand-up comedy, books of any and every genre, country and 90’s music, learning about people and cultures that are different from hers, and sashaying down the aisles at the store while belting out the Mr. Clean theme song, which makes it exceedingly awkward for her fellow shoppers. (Life really is too damn short to take yourself too seriously, am I right?)
